A logistics company with roughly 2,000 employees split across India and the UAE hired us after their existing HR system quietly miscalculated end-of-service gratuity for their UAE staff for two consecutive quarters — the platform had simply never been built with GCC labour law in mind, because it wasn't the market it was designed for.
The root problem was that statutory logic — provident fund contributions, gratuity formulas, leave entitlement accrual — had been hard-coded for an Indian payroll cycle and patched for UAE with workarounds. Every regulatory update meant a developer editing calculation code under time pressure. We rebuilt payroll around a rules engine where each country's statutory formulas live as versioned configuration, not code, so a compliance change is a data update, not a deployment.
An employee who transfers from the Mumbai office to the Dubai office shouldn't need a new record — but their leave accrual, tax treatment and payslip format all change on the transfer date. We designed the employee record to carry a compliance-context history, so payroll always calculates against the rules that were active for that employee at that point in time, even retroactively for corrections.
Beyond the calculation logic, payslip formats themselves differ enough between jurisdictions — line-item naming, currency display, statutory disclosures — that a single generic template satisfies no one. We built jurisdiction-specific payslip templates driven by the same underlying pay-run data, so HR never manually reformats anything.
Payroll runs that previously took the HR team most of a week now complete in under two days, a 70% reduction, with zero statutory miscalculations across three payroll cycles since go-live.
